【Profile】
Shumpei Nishino was born in 1947 in Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. He began building guitars in his teenage years and became an apprentice at the workshop of Jōsaburō Kurosawa in 1964 at the age of 17. In 1969, he established his own workshop in Tokorozawa, where he has continued to produce guitars ever since.

From early in his career, Nishino was deeply influenced by the work of Hermann Hauser I, and his guitars reflect a thorough study of Hauser’s instruments—particularly in their excellent tonal balance. He was also one of the first Japanese luthiers to explore the field of electro-acoustic (elegat) guitars. His exceptional craftsmanship has even attracted attention from the acoustic guitar community, where he has built a small number of high-quality models.

Nevertheless, it is in his Hauser-inspired classical guitars that Nishino’s skill and aesthetic sensibility shine most clearly. His instruments are consistently marked by precise construction, rich tonal color, and refined balance—qualities that live up to the legacy of the Hauser name. He also selects materials of a high grade that are rarely seen in this price range, making his guitars some of the best value instruments available in Japan today.

【Description】
This is a newly built No. 35 Hauser model by Shumpei Nishino, featuring a 640 mm short scale. The design and concept are faithful to the legendary 'Segovia' model by Hermann Hauser, and the instrument demonstrates outstanding quality in terms of acoustic design, construction, material selection, and overall musical balance.

Internally, the top features one harmonic bar and a reinforcement plate above the soundhole (toward the neck), and one harmonic bar below (toward the bridge). A concentric reinforcement patch surrounds the soundhole. The fan bracing consists of seven symmetrical braces, which terminate at two V-shaped closing bars near the bottom. A thin reinforcement plate is also applied beneath the bridge, similar in size to a standard bridge plate.

This internal structure is modeled directly on the Hauser Segovia design, with tonal balance to match. The entire tonal range, from bass to treble, is unified within a coherent phase, creating a sound architecture that can be described as almost keyboard-like in its clarity and linearity. While retaining the nuanced tonal character of the original design, this guitar also delivers Nishino's signature sound—clear, vibrant, and well-defined.

The neck angle and profile provide an exceptionally comfortable grip, and when combined with the moderate string tension of the short scale, the result is an instrument that is remarkably easy to play. The string height at the 12th fret is 2.6 mm on the first string and 3.9 mm on the sixth string. Even in its default setup, the action is comfortable, and with 1.0 to 3.0 mm of saddle height remaining, it allows for further customization to suit the player’s preference.
