[Profile]
Born in Nagoya in 1939, he entered his father Kanoh Mokumei's workshop in 1958 at the age of 19 and learned to make guitars. 1966, he became independent and started making instruments under his own brand, and since then he has been shipping high-quality instruments with great enthusiasm, making him one of the oldest veteran guitar makers in Japan. In addition to guitars, he also makes mandolins, lutes, and other ancient instruments, and is highly regarded in each genre. His classical guitars are characterized by a modest, even stoic tone, rich sound, and elegance, while aiming for a Spanish orthodox sound. The lineup includes a variety of short-scale models, especially in the 610-640 mm range, and is considered a pioneer in this category of high-end models in Japan.
[Description]
We are pleased to announce the arrival of Kodama Kanoh's 180 50th Anniversary model,640mm specs, made in 2009 (2045), official outlet of the brand. The sound board is made of Romanian spruce, and the back and sides are made of quarter-sawn Brazilian rosewood. The tuning machine is made by Rodgers, a high-end brand, and the rosette is elegantly designed in dark brown and black. This is one of the official outlets of Kanoh's special workshop stock, which he retired from making last year at the end of 2023.
The sound is characteristic of Kanoh's hard, grainy tone, and each note has a smooth, elegant woody sound. The sound is modest, yet expressive and powerful enough to be typical of the brand. Like the regular model, it is coated with polyurethane, but only the sound board is finished with a lighter matte finish, which gives it a more responsive and brighter sound that is appealing. There are a few small scratches that have been lightly repaired, and the paint finish on the sides of the sound board is a little rough, but there are no problems with use. This model was priced at 1,800,000 yen at the time of its release and is being sold at an outlet price. Case is sold separately.
