[Profile]
kaoru Ono(1954~) is one of the finest luthiers in Japan who for over 30 years now is
consistently producing guitars. At first he studied wood technology at the university, and
became interested in making guitars. Around 1980, he was apprenticed to Alberto Nejime
Ohno. In 2001 he participated in a course of guitar making lecture by Jose Luis Romanillos
at Siguenza, Spain. And also he met Arcangel Fernandez in Japan and was advised a
great deal. So deeply impressed by traditional Spanish guitar style, he explored his own
image of sound.
Orfeo Magazine No.15 features an interview with Kaoru Ono(Masahiro Tanabe, Alberto
Nejime Ohno, Marin Nejime, Yuichi Shimizu, Daisuke Kuriyama).
[Description]
Kaoru Ono's 1999 No. 91 Bouchet model is now in stock. Ono studied the 1967 Robert
Bouchet guitar owned by Minoru Inagaki and made this model one of his standard lineup. It
has a highly refined sound that is unaffected by the 'organ-like' image of the original
Bouchet, and is very typical of Ono. The original specification was for the entire surface to
be finished in shellac, but the back and sides of this model have been re-coated in lacquer.
The sound is slightly harder and straighter, and the sound is more like a burst of sound at
the fingertips. The back and sides have been repainted with a thin matte lacquer and are in
perfect condition. There is no history of cracks or other major repairs. Both the neck and
frets remain in very good condition.
