[Profile]
Born in Granada in 1934, he moved to Cordoba at the age of 10, where he continued to make guitars until his death. Originally a flamenco guitarist, he repaired a guitar that a singer had given him, but he was not satisfied with the results, so he taught himself to make his own guitars. He then improved his craftsmanship, and in 1956, through the introduction of guitarist Pepe Martinez, he made the acquaintance of master craftsman Marcelo Barbero I. It is well known that their interaction, which lasted only a year until Barbero I's death, had a decisive influence on Manuel. At the age of 24, Manuel opened his own workshop in Cordoba, where his guitars were dramatically improved and his reputation grew, and in 1979 he moved his workshop to a quieter setting at 7 Calle Alma. Many guitarists visited his workshop and purchased his guitars, and his fame reached its peak in the 1980s when Vicente Amigo, one of the most popular guitarists of the time, used one of his guitars. While possessing all the necessary flamenco elements, his guitars were highly regarded by classical guitarists for their delicate tone, expressiveness, fine craftsmanship, and advanced playability, and became one of the most representative flamenco brands of the second half of the 20th century. After his sad passing in 2014, the workshop was taken over by his son Manuel Reyes Hijo.

[Description]
Manuel Reyes 1960 Flamenco Blanca model with wooden pegs is now in stock. This is an excellent early piece and a very attractive one. The label shows the address (Don Rodrigo 17) of his workshop at that time, around 1960, and the design is original to the workshop.
This guitar was made when he was only 26 years old, but it is already a flamenco guitar that can be compared to the master craftsmen who came before him. The appearance is very attractive, with a stylish rosette design, a selection of extremely high quality materials, and a richness that comes from the age of the guitar. The overall response when played is very perceptive. The bass is firm and stable, with a wonderful balance between the sophisticated treble and the elegance of his unique tone, creating a unique identity as a flamenco guitar. The guitar has the buds of the noble tone of his later years and blends with the vintage Spanish sound that he was devoted to, making it a guitar that only he could have made during this period.
The sound board and sides have several cracks that have been repaired, but the patches have been properly reinforced from the inside. There are scratches and dings commensurate with the age of the guitar, and some touch-up repairs have been made. The frets have probably been replaced in the past. The head has friction type wooden pegs.
