[Profile]
Richard Jacob Weissgerber (1877-1960) was born in Markneukirchen, Saxony, the second son of guitar maker Karl August Jacob (1846-1918). He learned from his grandfather when he was a child and was engaged in zither production from the age of 14, but later turned to guitar production. He began his career as a maker at his father's workshop at the age of 28 and founded his own workshop in 1911. He explored new German guitars and traveled all over Germany and Austria to gain insight for his research. And he used the old brand name 'Weissgerber' in his family as his label. It is said that he did not make a work of the same specifications. The features such as the 'artistic' design and delicate work applied to each piece have tried various unique ideas not only in the appearance but also in the structural part related to the sound. He continued to make a total of 3,500 guitars, 16 hours a day, 6 days a week. Moreover, all of them have extremely beautiful and high quality without any compromise.
He was fascinated by the tone and sound of Spanish guitars played by Emilio Pujol, Luise Walker, Miguel Llobet, Andres Segovia and others who performed at Markneukirchen. With that as a trigger, he created an extremely original 'Spanish guitar series' with a concept different from the model he had made before. This series is considered a special lineup in Weissgerber's career and is still highly regarded.
He never hired outside craftsmen, and the workshop was run by three with his two sons Martin (1911-1994) and Arnold (1917-1944).
[Description]
Richard Jacob Weissgerber Made in 1943 C4.6 / 9 in good condition. This model corresponds to the Spanish series that has been produced since the mid-1920s. Made from high quality cedar wood and Latin American rosewood, the head is engraved to remind you of Simplício, and the sound hole design features extremely simple black dots. Also, from the neck to the back of the head, excellent work is done. The tone is also unique, and compared to Hauser's clear tone and balance, the simple tone that makes the most of the lively sound of wood makes the guitar attractive.
There is a history of repairing cracks under the bridge, but other than that, only slight scratch marks can be seen. It is in very good condition considering the age as a whole. The Tuning machine is an original H-type single type, and there is no functional problem here either.
