Manuel G.Contreras I (1984)

[Profile]
The brand by Manuel González Contreras (1928-1994) and his son Pablo Contreras (1957-2011) (*Jose Antonio Lagunar currently inherits the brand). Manuel began his career as a furniture maker with a high level of woodworking skills and a taste for design, and after working as a master craftsman at the José Ramírez III workshop from 1959 to 1962, he quickly set up his own workshop to realize his ideas.
His models, born from a rigorous selection of woods and a relentless pursuit of acoustics and playability, are so unique that he is almost an inventor, making his brand a rare one. The lineup ranges from multi-string guitars with 8, 10, and 13 strings, to double tops (quite different from the Nomex guitars later developed by Matthias Daman and others), the Carlebarro model that incorporates the acoustic principles of a speaker, and the 1A Especial that uses curved power wood. All of them are remarkable models.
However, the sound of the José Ramírez-style Madrid School, which was the starting point for these models, has remained the same, and they are still highly regarded as one of Madrid's most representative brands. His son, Pablo, has worked in his father's workshop since 1975 and has contributed to the brand's prosperity. Even after Manuel's death, Pablo continued to ship excellent guitars, but in 2011, at the age of 54, Pablo passed away.

[Description]
Manuel Contreras I, made in 1984, is now in stock. The sound board is made of cedar, and the back and sides are made of high quality Central and South American rosewood (the back is double-layered with cedar wood pasted inside). The sound is just as massive, expansive, and lustrous as the exterior image. The treble has the same rigidity as the bass and sings richly, but with a unique fullness, which is unique to cedar wood. The bass, on the other hand, has a tight sound, and the balance between the two is very attractive.
The internal construction is a perfect realization of Contreras's idea, known as the 'curved bracing' system. Contreras installed the bar by curving it to follow the curve of the sides. This highly original construction is also used in his flagship model, the 1A Especial.
The sound board has a crack on the side of the fingerboard, but it is barely discernible. Please try this one from the Contreras' full period.
