We are pleased to offer this vintage 1827 Romantic guitar by Gennaro Fabbricatore. The label reads Toledo N. 297, indicating that it was made in the workshop located at 297 Toledo Street. He produced a considerable amount of guitars at that time and had several workshops in operation. Therefore, it is likely that this piece was not made by Gennaro himself, but by a craftsman in his workshop. However, the production techniques of famous stringed instrument workshops at that time were at an astonishingly high level, and they produced extremely high-quality pieces. This piece can be said to be one of the proofs of that.
The sound board with a characteristic botanical pattern carved out of wood is known as the standard design of this brand, and is a typical design that is also used by many other brands. The fingerboard is not Naples style (the fingerboard after the 12th fret is built on the same surface as the sound board), but a so-called flush board specification with frets driven directly into the surface board after the 13th fret. The head is not wooden pegs but a tuning machines. The sound is deep, simple, rich, and expressive, with the 19th century sound that everyone envisions.
The sound board and back and sides are cracked, but have been properly repaired and are in perfect condition.
