[Profile]
Born in 1958, Christopher Dean is a renowned British luthier based in Oxford. His interest in guitar making began at 17 after reading Irving Sloane’s classic manual. He studied at the London College of Furniture (1979–1982), including practical workshops with José Luis Romanillos and Paul Fischer. After a year in New Zealand, he joined Fischer’s workshop, quickly becoming a trusted craftsman, before establishing his own workshop.
Dean’s guitars are known for their elegant appearance, powerful resonance, and rich tonal palette. While influenced by Fischer and Rubio, he also draws inspiration from Friederich, Torres, Hauser, and especially Santos Hernández, whose 1929 guitar he studied carefully. His instruments include models that pay homage to the legendary guitarist Andrés Segovia.
