[Profile]
The brand by Manuel González Contreras (1928-1994) and his son Pablo Contreras (1957-2011) (*Jose Antonio Lagunar currently inherits the brand). Manuel began his career as a furniture maker with a high level of woodworking skills and a taste for design, and after working as a master craftsman at the José Ramírez III workshop from 1959 to 1962, he quickly set up his own workshop to realize his ideas.
His models, born from a rigorous selection of woods and a relentless pursuit of acoustics and playability, are so unique that he is almost an inventor, making his brand a rare one. The lineup ranges from multi-string guitars with 8, 10, and 13 strings, to double tops (quite different from the Nomex guitars later developed by Matthias Daman and others), the Carlebarro model that incorporates the acoustic principles of a speaker, and the 1A Especial that uses curved power wood. All of them are remarkable models.
However, the sound of the José Ramírez-style Madrid School, which was the starting point for these models, has remained the same, and they are still highly regarded as one of Madrid's most representative brands. His son, Pablo, has worked in his father's workshop since 1975 and has contributed to the brand's prosperity. Even after Manuel's death, Pablo continued to ship excellent guitars, but in 2011, at the age of 54, Pablo passed away.

[Description]
Manuel Contreras flamenco blanco, Estudio model with wooden pegs is now in stock. There is no date of production on the label, but this guitar was probably made in the 1980's. The sound board is made of spruce, and the back and sides are made of cypress.
This guitar is an excellent model for beginner to intermediate flamenco players in terms of both sound and playability, and the wooden pegs give it a pleasant resonance.
The overall sound is hard and clear, different from the robust sound of old Spanish guitars, but very expressive. The instrument has few scratches and no major repair history for an instrument that is over 40 years old.
