[Profile]
Marcelo Barbero I (1904-1956) was born in Madrid, Spain. He is one of the greatest master craftsmen of the 20th century, the maker who bridged the tradition from Torres to Manuel Ramirez to the Spanish guitars of today.
When Jose Ramirez II returned to Spain from Buenos Aires in 1925 to take over Ramirez I's workshop, Barbero was one of the craftsmen working there. However, when the master craftsman Santos Hernandez died in 1943, Barbero took over Santos' workshop at the request of Santos' widow, and began producing guitars with the label 'Viuda de Santos Hernandez' (meaning 'widow'). Although Barbero had no direct relationship with Santos, he proceeded to build guitars with the advice of the widow, using materials, molds, and sound boards that had been stored in the workshop, as well as tools and jigs that had been used, and came to be deeply impressed by the acoustic excellence of Santos' guitars. He became Santos' successor, and from that time onward, he produced guitars based on Santos' designs. His style developed in his own unique way, and he began to make guitars independently under his own label. However, he passed away in 1956 at the young age of 52. Many makers visited his workshop because of his warm personality, and Arcángel Fernández, who later became one of Madrid's most important makers, spent the last two years of his life with him and took over the workshop as Barbero's true successor.

[Description]
We are pleased to announce the arrival of a Flamenco Blanca with wooden pegs, made in 1952. This is a valuable piece from the last years of his career, when he was at his most productive.
The core sound, the balance of each string, the dignified single notes, and the elegant chords, etc., are truly a piece by a true master craftsman.
While inheriting the design from Santos Hernandez, the head shape and inlay design, both of which are full of outstanding taste, have an appearance worthy of a masterpiece. The neck and frets are in good condition, the string height is appropriate, and the instrument retains a high degree of playability. There is a history of crack repair, but it has been properly repaired.
