Born in Nagoya in 1939, he entered his father Kano Mokumei's workshop in 1958 at the age of 19 and learned to make guitars. 1966, he became independent and started making instruments under his own brand, and since then he has been shipping high-quality instruments with great enthusiasm, making him one of the oldest veteran guitar makers in Japan. In addition to guitars, he also makes mandolins, lutes, and other ancient instruments, and is highly regarded in each genre. His classical guitars are characterized by a modest, even stoic tone, rich sound, and elegance, while aiming for a Spanish orthodox sound. The lineup includes a variety of short-scale models, especially in the 610-640 mm range, and is considered a pioneer in this category of high-end models in Japan.

Kodama Kanoh No. 40 630mm Classical Guitar 2022 is in stock. This guitar was made after Kanoh's 80th birthday, and is of the highest quality in terms of workmanship, sound, and playability. The sound board is made of bear claw spruce, and the back and sides are Indian rosewood. Although this is the least expensive model of this brand, it has high potential to be enjoyed by beginners and advanced players alike.
Although it has a short scale of 630mm, it has a powerful sound, with tight single notes, rich expression, and deep resonance. The acoustics are superb, with none of the usual disadvantages of a short scale, and the slightly lower string tension is an advantage for players who have difficulty with their left hand. The brand is rather impressive for its calm and stoic tone, but this work is characterized by a bright Spanish-like sound.
