[Description]
The lack of a label and description of the inside of the body makes it difficult to determine the brand details, but the style, specifications, and condition suggest that this guitar was made in Europe in the first half of the 20th century. It has much in common with the famous 'Vienna' model by German master craftsman Hermann Hauser, and was probably made under his influence. The neck is bolted to the body, and the fingerboard above the 13th fret is intentionally raised from the sound board.
The tuning machine is a single type, and although only the 4th string was replaced early on, it was replaced with one of the same model to maintain a consistent look. The body is made of spruce on the sound board and flame maple on the back and sides, and the back has the gently arched shape characteristic of Vienna guitars. The back has a gently arched back, characteristic of Viennese-style guitars. The Vienna model by Hauser was literally inspired by the models popular in 19th century Vienna (especially that of Stauffer), and thus has the sound of a 19th century romantic guitar. The mellow tone is very natural and elegant, and the light sound is very pleasant. The bass is surprisingly thick, powerful, and attractive, with characteristics somewhat reminiscent of today's South American guitars.
The sound board is made of high quality wood, and there are a few cracks that have been repaired, probably due to drying, but there are no distortions or curvatures on the board itself. The back is gracefully arched, and the elaborate interior work shows that this guitar was made by an excellent craftsman.
There are a few cracks on both sides of the fingerboard and around the bridge (there are patch reinforcements from the inside of the body), but there are no other major repairs, and the flaws are commensurate with the age of the instrument considering that it is almost 100 years old. The surface has probably been repainted and treated with shellac to keep the original feel. The saddle is metal, with zero frets installed, and wooden end pins are attached to the bottom of the sideboard.
This model is recommended for those who want to enjoy the sound of an old instrument easily.
