[Profile]
Juan Hernandez, born in 1948 in Valencia, Spain, began his career as an apprentice at Esteve Guitars in Valencia at the age of 15, quickly gaining recognition for his exceptional craftsmanship. Over time, he was entrusted with his own section within the workshop, where he developed his own lineup of models. His small workshop, consisting of fewer than five artisans, consistently produces high-quality, fully handmade guitars that are highly regarded both domestically and internationally. Hernandez offers a wide range of models, from student models to professional concert guitars, as well as 19th-century style guitars, multi-string models, and modern lattice-braced guitars. His instruments are known for their effortless power, clear and expressive tone, and exceptional playability, making them not only practical but also beautifully designed with luxurious finishes.
[Descriptin]
This 2011 Juan Hernandez Romanillos Model No.65 used guitar is a custom model originally designed for a music store and later became a staple limited to the Japanese market. It is inspired by the renowned Spanish luthier José Luis Romanillos (1932–2022), with many key elements of his famous guitar design, such as the rosette, headstock shape, and internal bracing structure. While the design has been slightly simplified, it maintains a high level of quality and craftsmanship, showcasing the brand’s flexibility in custom-built guitars.
The guitar’s sound is bold and open, in contrast to Romanillos' restrained aesthetic, with impressive volume and power that is a hallmark of Juan Hernandez's signature style.
The guitar is in near-new condition, with only a few minor dings around the soundhole and bridge area. There are no cracks or alterations, and no repair history. The neck has a slight relief, which is within the standard range, and the frets remain in excellent condition. The neck shape is a comfortable, slim D-profile, and the body is slightly smaller than Hernandez's standard models, giving it a compact and manageable feel. The string action is set at 2.8mm (1st string) and 3.8mm (6th string) at the 12th fret, with room for adjustment, as the saddle has 2.0-2.5mm of excess, allowing for a lower setup if desired.
