Profile
José Ramírez is arguably the most renowned Spanish guitar brand in the world. With a legacy spanning over a century since the era of José Ramírez I, the brand has played a central role in the history of Spanish guitar making.

The period under José Ramírez III marked a particularly influential chapter, during which the brand introduced a series of innovative and highly acclaimed designs. These included the use of cedar tops, double-sided construction with cypress linings (a material traditionally used in flamenco guitars), an extended 664mm scale length, and the application of urea resin finishes.

These pioneering developments significantly influenced the evolution of classical guitar making. At the same time, the guitars became known for their sweet, lustrous, and romantic tone—a signature sound affectionately referred to as the “Ramírez tone”, which has come to define the classical guitar in the ears of many players and listeners around the world.

Description
This is the José Ramírez 1A, the brand’s flagship model, serial number A2569, made in 1990. It features the red “86” label, and unlike the more common 664mm scale, this particular guitar has a 650mm scale length, making it slightly more comfortable for players who prefer a traditional feel.

The instrument shows signs of use consistent with its age: there are 1–5mm dents and scratches along both sides of the fingerboard, around the soundhole, and near the bottom of the body. Additionally, string marks from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd strings are visible beneath the bridge.

Despite these cosmetic imperfections, the guitar retains the characteristic depth, clarity, and warmth of tone for which Ramírez 1A models are celebrated. It remains a highly desirable instrument for players seeking the expressive voice and rich history that come with a true concert-level Spanish guitar.
