[Profile]
Born in Madrid, Spain in 1931. Like many guitar makers of this era, he started his career as a furniture maker.
He studied guitar performance under Daniel Fortea, an excellent pupil of F. Talega, and his skills were quite good at the time, as he won several prizes in competitions.
He began making guitars for his own personal use around 1947, and although he received valuable advice on how to make guitars from Santos Hernandez's widow, Matilde Ruiz, he was otherwise almost completely self-taught, and in 1949 he established his own workshop.
He has continued to produce very high quality guitars founded on the Madrid tradition, and for several years from 1971, at the request of Hernández y Aguado, he was also involved in the production of the brand during this period.
He was also known as a researcher, collecting and studying historical masterpieces and building excellent replica models of them himself.
His craftsmanship and refined designs have been described as even better than those of Romanillos. All of his guitars are first-rate works of craftsmanship, and they possess an elegance that is unique among the works of the Spanish master craftsmen. He continued to play and make guitars throughout his life, producing more than 1,000 guitars. He passed away in 2018.

[Description]
We are pleased to offer Marcelino Lopez Nieto, No. 544, made in 1970. This guitar is made of spruce and cypress, probably as a flamenco model, and there are traces of golpe board removal on the sound board. However, the neck and saddle settings and acoustics are rather classical, and it has been used mainly as a classical guitar. The woody sound of the cypress is full of luster and expressive power. The tone is clear and well suited for Renaissance and Baroque music.
There are scratches and dents commensurate with its age. The sound board is made of three pieces of wood, and is reinforced from the inside with patches. There is a 7cm crack repaired on the side of the sound hole. This guitar has the charm of the Madrid Spanish guitars before they moved to their own style later on.
