[Profile]
Hermann Hauser I (1882-1952) is considered the greatest guitar maker of the 20th century for his unparalleled perfection and his influence on the entire guitar world. He created the 'Segovia model,' which is still followed by many as the supreme model of the classical guitar.
Influenced by his multi-talented father Joseph (1854-1939), a renowned zither player, composer, and maker, he began making zithers himself at the age of 18. The Hauser family lived in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, which had a very active guitar culture at the time. Hermann made not only zithers but also ensemble guitars and lutes. The 'Wiener Model' and the 'Munich Model,' which are still famous today, are the most prominent examples of Hermann's exceptional craftsmanship. Although the new wave of torres guitars had not yet entered Germany at this time, the cultural demand for Spanish guitars increased dramatically with the visits of Miguel Liobet and Andrés Segovia, two virtuoso guitarists.

Hermann met Liobet in 1913 and had his first experience with his beloved Torres (probably made in 1864), and was impressed by its structural innovation and tonal excellence. He had the opportunity to inspect his 1859 Torres again in 1916, and began making Spanish guitars in the Torres style. With much advice from Liobet himself, he produced a number of prototypes. Some were purely replicas of Torres guitars, while others were a fusion of Torres and the style that he had been making himself, indicating his repeated trial and error in search of the ideal sound. (The Torres replica guitars made during this period were later reissued by Hauser II and III as the 'Liobet Model').

In 1924, the young Andrés Segovia, visiting Germany on a concert tour, highly praised Hermann's talent as a craftsman, and encouraged him to make a copy of the 1912 Manuel Ramirez guitar he had brought with him (made by Santos Hernández, the head craftsman at the same workshop). Hermann was so impressed with Manuel's guitar that he began a new exploration and prototyping process. More than ten years later, in 1936, a guitar was completed, based on the style of Torres and Manuel Ramirez, but incorporating Hauser's unique acoustic sensibilities. The whole was finished with an extremely high degree of balance and precision, and Segovia was so moved by the tonal splendor that he famously praised it with the words, 'You don't have to make anything better than this. True to his words, Segovia switched to a Hermann Hauser I guitar made the following year in 1937, and continued to use it until 1962, producing many great performances. This was the 'Segovia model,' considered the supreme masterpiece in guitar history, and it has been the flagship model of the brand up to the current 3rd and 4th generations (Kathrin Hauser). It has become a world standard as the perfect ideal form of guitar, studied and followed by makers all over the world, and is still a coveted item for guitarists.
The value of the Hauser I 'Segovia Model' continues to rise, and at world-renowned auctions it currently fetches as high a price as the Torres and Robert Bouchet.

[Description]
Hermann Hauser I, a very rare one made in 1919, has just arrived.
It is a Spanish style model with Hauser's original innovations, made in 1913, when he was exploring new frontiers based on Miguel Lliobet's advice. It is a guitar with a high degree of perfection and is a transformation of the style of the Wienna and Munich models into a style suitable for Spanish acoustics, and is so well developed that it is hard to believe that this was a period of exploration. You can hear the germ of the style that would later lead to the Segovia model.

Both the fine spruce and wild flame maple are locally sourced from Germany. The tuning machine is original, probably by Baker, and in good working condition. There is a crack repair history on the bottom part of the body, which has been repaired with a patch from the inside. There are stamps on the inside of the body at the neck block and on the back of the sound board, signed by Hauser I himself, stating that it was repaired in 1935. It comes with an official certificate issued by Hauser III.
