[Profile]
Francisco Manuel Diaz Fernandez (1942- ) is a guitar maker from Granada, Spain. Before making guitars, he worked as a painter and furniture maker. At the age of 14, he was introduced to Eduardo Ferrer (1905-1988), a local maker who was looking for staff for his workshop. Ferrer's workshop and guitar store was a great place for young aspiring guitar makers in the city of Granada to learn. Ferrer saw Francisco’s proficiency with tools and decided to hire him immediately.

Francisco became passionate about guitar making and built his first guitar a year later. In his second year, he was given the responsibility of making his own guitars, working for Ferrer for a total of three years. He then worked in the workshop of Manuel de la Checa (1911-1998), another important local maker, where he fully absorbed the essence of the two different brands. This experience would profoundly influence his own production philosophy.

According to Francisco, while Ferrer was a guitar maker in the total sense of the word and above all insisted on “good sound,” De la Checa was oriented toward guitars with a mathematical aesthetic, based on precise calculations and designs that left no detail untouched.

In 1965, after completing his military service, Francisco established his own workshop at 29 Gomerez Street, despite Ferrer's eagerness to reassign him to his workshop. His guitars are based on the Granada style, combining his own research with that of his admirers, José Ramirez I and Antonio de Torres. His guitars are both traditional and original, and they are increasingly in demand.

It is worth mentioning his substantial work in this category, which is based on his contacts with flamenco guitarists. He himself is also a flamenco guitarist, and his models, created from feedback from guitarists and from his own experience as a performer, have become one of Granada's most representative brands in terms of playability, acoustics, and design.

His two sons, Victor and Francisco Manuel Diaz Sanchez, have followed in their father's footsteps and continue to make quality guitars in Granada.

[Description]
This is a 2006 Flamenco Blanca model made by Francisco Manuel Diaz Fernandez. It has an impressive appearance with an aesthetic and elaborate design. The sound is dense with full rigidity, and it has the characteristics, strength, and sharpness that are appropriate for flamenco. Francisco effortlessly blends the eloquence that can only be achieved with the Spanish guitar with the softness and romanticism that is uniquely his own.

As a moderately played flamenco guitar, it shows some scratches, dents, and shellac wear commensurate with its age. There is a crack repaired from the side of the soundhole to the saddle. These repairs have been reinforced with patches from the inside, so there are no problems with its use.
