Domingo Esteso (1882–1937) 1931 Flamenco Model Guitar

This 1931 flamenco model was crafted by Domingo Esteso, one of the most revered luthiers from Madrid, Spain. Known for his exceptional craftsmanship, Esteso’s guitars were highly regarded by flamenco musicians, and this particular instrument offers a glimpse into the golden era of Spanish guitar making.

[Descrption]
The body of the guitar has been re-lacquered with French polish (shellac) in the past, and the guitar shows signs of heavy play, with numerous dings, scratches, and small impact marks. The top has several repaired cracks, including areas around the fingerboard edge on the high-pitched side, near the waist, and from the bridge down to the bottom. The low-pitched side of the soundhole also shows signs of wear from the player’s nails, which has been patched and repaired.

The side panels have a crack repair running from the bottom to the lower bout on the bass side, and the back has multiple repaired cracks near the center and bottom, most of which have been patched from the inside, though some were only glued.

It appears that the fingerboard and frets have been replaced at some point in the past, and the neck is currently in excellent condition. While the interior of the guitar shows some signs of past structural work, including the addition and removal of braces, and some slight trimming of the bracing, the guitar is stable for continued use.

The tuning pegs have been replaced with high-quality Sloan tuners, which function perfectly. Despite the cosmetic imperfections from repairs, the guitar is structurally sound and ready for performance, offering the characteristic responsive, percussive tone that Esteso guitars are famous for.
