[Luthier Information]
Vicente Carrillo (b. 1963) hails from a family of luthiers with a proud heritage dating back to 1744. Based in Cuenca, Spain, he is part of a long-standing tradition of Spanish guitar making. Carrillo has earned recognition for his openness to feedback from world-renowned guitarists and fellow craftsmen, as well as for his commitment to refining and promoting his instruments. In 2010, he was honored with Spain’s National Craftsmanship Award (Premio Nacional de Artesanía).

While Carrillo builds exceptional classical guitars, it is his flamenco guitars that have garnered particular acclaim. His instruments have been used by legendary players such as Paco de Lucía and Tomatito, and more recently by virtuoso Cañizares, helping to solidify Carrillo’s growing global reputation. His guitars are known for combining traditional Spanish character with modern design sensibilities.

[Instrument Details]
This is a 2008 Vicente Carrillo “India Estudio” model, a used classical guitar from one of Spain’s most respected luthiers. The guitar features a German spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides, built as part of Carrillo’s Estudio line, intended for serious students and intermediate players.

True to its name, the Estudio model offers outstanding playability and response, a hallmark of Carrillo’s approach. With its clear Spanish tonal character, rich projection, and excellent left-hand comfort, the guitar is designed to meet a wide range of musical demands. It strikes a refined balance between affordability and craftsmanship — something few brands manage to achieve with such consistency.

While Carrillo has explored modern lattice bracing in his signature models (such as those made for Cañizares), this guitar features a more traditional fan bracing system:

One harmonic bar above and one below the soundhole.

A diagonal treble-side brace extends from the lower harmonic bar toward the side, enhancing high-frequency response.

Five fan braces are symmetrically arranged across the lower bout.

Two closing bars are placed in a V-shape at the tail end of the guitar to support the fan braces.

Main resonance is tuned between F♯ and G, offering a balanced, responsive voice.

Condition Report:

No major cracks, structural repairs, or modifications.

The soundboard shows moderate playwear, with visible pick and fingernail marks between the treble side of the fingerboard and soundhole, as well as along the bottom edge of the top.

Minor string marks can be seen near the 1st and 3rd string positions below the bridge, along with general wear in the string tie area.

The back and sides display fine scratches and slight hazing in the finish, likely due to contact with clothing and humidity, though none of these affect functionality.

The neck has a very slight forward relief, within acceptable limits.

Profile is a thin, flat D-shape, providing a compact grip ideal for smaller hands or fast playing.

Action at the 12th fret is set to approx. 3.2 mm (1st string) / 3.8 mm (6th string), with 2.0–2.5 mm saddle height remaining.

Includes a super-lightweight hard case (black).
