About Tax-Free Shopping
Guitarshop AURA offers a duty-free shopping service for visitors to Japan.
Please read the information below carefully before using this service.
Eligible Duty-Free Products
We classify duty-free items into two categories:
■ General items (musical instruments)
- Minimum purchase of ¥5,000 (excluding tax) required.
- Cannot be combined with consumables.
■ Consumables (e.g., guitar strings, polish, sheet music)
- Purchase amount must exceed ¥5,000 and be less than ¥500,000 (excluding tax).
- Cannot be combined with general musical instruments.
- Items will be specially packaged to prevent use within Japan.
Who Is Eligible for Duty-Free Shopping?
This service is available to non-residents such as foreign tourists and Japanese nationals temporarily returning from abroad.
Examples of eligible customers:
- Foreign nationals staying in Japan for less than 6 months with a temporary visa or landing permission.
- Japanese nationals temporarily returning to Japan who meet one of the following:
- Living abroad for work.
- Residing overseas for over 2 years with permanent relocation.
- Staying overseas for over 2 years since their last departure from Japan.
How to Shop Duty-Free
■ Required Documents
- Passport is required. We cannot process duty-free purchases without it.
- If your visa or landing permission is not visible in your passport, please show other proof of status.
- Users of Visit Japan Web may present the QR code for processing.
■ Purchase Procedure
- Please confirm with our staff whether your items are eligible before purchasing.
- We use Pie VAT (Pie Systems) for duty-free processing.
Our staff will assist you with downloading and using the app if needed.
Fees and Refund Rate
We use Pie VAT (Pie Systems) for all duty-free transactions.
A 1.5% service fee will be deducted from the total eligible purchase amount.
As a result, the actual refund rate for items normally taxed at 10% will be 8.5%.

Important Notices (Before Purchasing)
- We cannot provide guidance on customs or import restrictions in your home country.
- Duty-free procedures must be completed on the same day and at the store of purchase.
Items from other stores cannot be combined.
Important Notes When Leaving Japan
- Do not open consumable items before leaving Japan. Opened items may be taxed.
- Items must be taken out of Japan within 30 days of purchase.
- Keep all receipts and purchase documents, as they are required at customs when departing.
