[Profile]
Laurent Blaise [Blaise Mast] (1783-1857) was a member of the Blaise family of string instrument makers in France. They made violins, guitars, and a wide range of other instruments such as harp guitars and lira guitars of luxurious and artistic design. An important brand in Mirecourt, the center of French stringed instrument production, Blaise had a great influence on the makers of its time.
[Description]
This guitar is believed to date from the early 1800s. In addition to the advanced woodworking techniques, the rosette and purfling made of white butterfly shells are well-detailed and stylishly designed, as one would expect from the best stringed instrument workshop in France.
The sound board has only two harmonic bars above and below the sound hole. Due to the high quality materials and high workmanship, there is little distortion of the wood, and the instrument remains in very good condition. This 19th century guitar is richly decorated with Baroque taste, and its rustic and rich sound is very attractive.
