[Profile]
The brand was founded by Juan Alvarez, who learned guitar making from Marcelo Barbero I (1904-1956), one of the most famous Spanish craftsmen of the 20th century. He quickly became so skilled that he opened his own workshop in 1952. The brand became popular for its ability to better represent the characteristics of the Madrid School, and after his death in 2001, his son, Juan Miguel Alvarez, took over the workshop, which continues to this day.
Juan Miguel began learning guitar making in his father's workshop in 1977 at the age of 17, but left to pursue his education. After studying engineering at university, he considered a career in that field for a while, but his love for guitars was undeniable, and he returned to his father's workshop to resume making guitars. Under his father's strict instruction, he was finally allowed to produce guitars under his own label in the late 1990s.
The model made by his predecessor, Juan Alvarez, in 1977 was used by Eric Clapton, and the guitar brought an unbelievably high price at a Christie's auction, which was a big story in the guitar industry at the time.
